Physiology: small intestine & exocrine pancreas 2 Flashcards
what are the secretions of the small intestine (7)
gastrin, secretin, CCK, gastric inhibitory peptide(GIP), GLP-1, motilin and ghrelin
what is the function of gastrin
stimulates H+ secretion by parietal cells and growth of gastric mucosa
what is the function of secretin
promotes secretion of pancreatic + biliary HCO3
what is the function of CCK
inhibits gastric emptying, causes secretion of pancreatic enzymes, stimulates relaxation of sphincter of Oddi + contraction of gall bladder to release bile
what is the function of GIP
stimulates release of insulin from pancreatic beta-cells
and inhibits gastric emptying
what is the function of GLP-1
stimulates insulin secretion, inhibits glucagon secretion, decreases gastric emptying and appetite
what is the function of motilin
initiates MMC(peristalsis)
what is the function ghrelin
stimulates appetite
what does small intestine juice contain
mucus + aqueous salt
what are the endocrine pancreatic secretions
insulin and glucagon(secreted to blood)
what are the exocrine pancreatic secretions
digestive enzymes and aqueous HCO3 solution
secreted to duodenum collectively as pancreatic juice
