Q

How does air enter the lungs?

A

Air enters through the nose or the mouth into the pharynx. It proceeds down the windpipe to the left and right bronchi to the bronchioles. Then air goes to the alveoli. This is when gas exchange will occur.

Q

What do the intercostal muscles do during inhilation

A

Contract (up and out)

17
Q

What does the sympathetic nervous system do to the body when oxygen levels drop

A

Increases the heart rate and constrict blood vessels in an attempt to move more blood to transport more oxygen and carbon dioxide

18

Is inhalation active or passive

A

active

19
Q

Is exhalation active or passive

A

passive
