PHASES & STAGES OF GENERAL ANESTHESIA Flashcards
FOUR PHASES OF GENERAL ANESTHESIA
- Induction
- Maintenance
- Emergence
- Recovery
Induction
. begins with administration of anesthetic agents until maintenance level is achieved
.patient may be intubated with an endotracheal tube
Maintenance
. begins before surgical procedure and ends with completion of procedure
. use of inhalation agents, local or intravenous agents
Emergence
. begins when patient begins to emerge from anesthesia and ends when patient is ready to leave the operating room
. extubation (removal of the endotracheal tube) may be performed
Recovery
begins when the patient enters the postanesthesia recovery unit and ends when patient becomes responsive
