A

a dominant trait (1: 50,000-100,000 anesthesias)

A

Contracture of skeletal muscles (muscle rigidity), marked temperature elevation (1 degree every 5 minutes), tachycardia, metabolic acidosis, hypoxia

May occur during?

A

induction or maintenance of anesthesia but can also occur postoperatively

All OR personnel must be familiar with the protocol of its management

A

. Treated with immediate infusion of Dantrolene, a muscle relaxant
. The anesthetic that triggered the reaction must be immediately discontinued and patient must be given 100% oxygen
. Relatives of affected patient must be investigated at a later time
