Care that focuses on the needs of the individual where people’s preferences, needs and values are considered. The care needs to be respectful and responsive to the patient, where health and wellbeing outcomes are co-produced

It’s been proven to improve patient outcomes. Patients feel more empowered and in control over their care, and like the care is individualised

It allows the radiographer to converse with different age groups, e.g. 90 year olds, 3 year olds, etc

It makes people feel involved and comfortable

It allows us to direct patients to different relevant support services, and for us to meet their specific needs, e.g. we could offer to help carry a patient’s bags
Why is having conversations with people to manage complexity and risk a good core approach of person centred care?
It allows us to see the personal situations of patients. E.g. when you see a patient in a wheelchair- can they walk? Will they fall off the x-ray table? Talk to the patient to gain more information about their situation

Because it puts the patient at the centre of everything we do.we ask questions… “can you walk?”

Because you’re providing information that the patient can understand, so they feel knowledgable over their experience in the healthcare system
What is patient and public involvement (PPI)?
When healthcare professionals discuss with the community and the patients, so they have a voice within the system when you want to change anything within the system
Why would carer awareness help to achieve person centred care?
It gives support to the carers that take care of ill patients
Why would quality improvement help to achieve person centred care?
It would give people who need extra support the support they need, e.g. a sensory room for people who are neurodivergent
