performance characteristics of Polymer based sheet and Film 3.1.2 Flashcards
What is a Polymer Film?
This is usually very thin and flexible, such as a cellulose acetate used for photographic film.
What is a Polymer Sheet?
Thicker than a polymer film, and is available in stock sheets of varying thicknesses, e.g foam board sheet is available in 3mm 5mm, and 10mmand 20mm
What are the performance characteristics and uses for Foam board?
Properties : Two outer Layers of card with a foam middle core
Uses: Presentation boards, modelling.
What are the performance characteristics and uses for the Fluted PP sheet?
Properties : Extruded sheet with integral flutes or corrugations, Lightweight and easily bent.
Uses: Signs (such as construction) Small models
What are the performance characteristics and uses for Styrofoam?
Properties : Dense, closed-cell foam. Can be cut shaped and sanded with standard workshop tools
Uses: product modelling
What are the performance characteristics and uses for Translucent PP?
Properties : Tough Polymer sheet can be folded many times, virtually impossible to tear, water resistant
Uses: Packaging products, folding modeling.
What are the performance characteristics and uses for Low density polyethylene (LDPE)?
Properties : Tough, available in thin sheet form, transparent, good chemical resistance, flexible.
Uses: Food wrapping, carrier bags
What are the performance characteristics and uses for Plastazote foam?
Properties : Closed cell polyethylene foam tough, flexible impact resistant.
Uses: Protective Packaging, swimming floats, gym and exercise mats, sound and pipe insulation.
What are the performance characteristics and uses for Cellulose acetate?
Properties : Transparent, tough, naturally biodegrades
Uses: Packaging film, Photographic film
What are the performance characteristics and uses for Polylactide?
Properties : Transparent, tough, naturally biodegrades
Uses: Biodegradable packaging film.
