Perception Flashcards
bottom-up theories
small details to get big picture
name one thing that supports bottom-up theory
the anatomy and structural system support this - way the visual system is contstructed.
top-down theory….
we may not be breaking the image down to elementary parts - how would we read?
name 2 things that support top-down theories
speed of recognition is faster w more context
ambiguous/ reversible figures (duck/rabbit) - can switch between the two once you see the whole picture
what do the interactive theories entail?
combine both theories of pattern perception
that they occur at the same time with similar bidirectional flow of information.
what are categories of depth perception cues
binocular and monocular
Binocular?
FCRD
- forward facing eyes = visual fields overlap
Convergence - eyes move together when objects are close
Divergence - opposite
Retinal disparity - L & R visual fields provide slightly dif images.
Monocular?
DURRT IRLL
Depend on 1 eye
Use 3D for depth
Represented in picture/movie
Relative size
Texture gradient
Interposition
Relative height/location
Linear position - converging lines
Light/shadows
what are the 2 theories of Colour Perception?
young-helmholz - trichromatic theory
Opponent process theory
trichromatic theory?
there are three different cone systems in the eye that perceive three types of color: blue, green, and red.
opponent process theory?
Ability to perceive colour - controlled by three receptor complexes with opposing actions.
red-green complex, the blue-yellow complex, and the black-white complex.
