What does Genesis (Pentateuch) contain
Contains stories about the creation of the world, the flood, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. The story of the children of Israel in bondage in Egypt. The exodus from Egypt. The time the children of Israel spent in the wilderness before entering the promised land. Genesis also records the laws God gave to the people.
What is the setting of Genesis
Canaan and Egypt, and the Tigris and Euphrates rivers
Main Characters of Genesis
Adam and Eve: first man and woman
Cain and Able: sons of Adam and Eve and first murderer
Noah: man of righteousness, built the ark
Abraham: Man of righteousness. First of Gods chosen people from whom God created the nation of Israel
Jacob: Isaac’s son ?
Benjamin: Jacob’s youngest son ?

What are the 9 major events in Genesis
- God creates the universe (Genesis 1 and 2)
- Adam and Eve have to leave the Gardeb of Eden because they disobeyed God (Genesis 3)
- Cain kills Abel (Genesis 4)
- Noah builds an ark to save his family, and two of each animal on earth, from the coming flood. (Genesis 6)
- People from all regions come together to build the Tower of Babel in an attempt to see God (Genesis 11)
- The cities of Sodom and Gomorrah were destroyed because their inhabitants turned away from God (Genesis 18)
- God tells Abraham to sacrifice his son Issac. Isaac is spared because of Abraham’s faithfulness (Genesis 22)
- In a Dream, Jacob sees a ladder to heaven. In the dream, Hod says Jacob’s descendants will cover the way (Genesis 28)
- Jacob gives his son Joseph a coat of many colors. Good uses his brothers jealousy to bring Joseph into great power. (Genesis 37)
