4 Types of Christian Apologetics
- CLASSICAL APOLOGETICS: The oldest type of Christian apologetics focuses on philosophical beliefs
Metaphysics:
Reason and Logic: Rational thinking
supports faith.
Creation: There must be a creator.
Philosophers: Aristotle, Socrates, Plato,
Rhetoric: Persuasive speaking and
writing.
Cosmological Argument: Everything must
have a cause, and that cause is God. - EVIDENTIAL: Using evidence from history and science and other fields.
Supports the existence of God, truth of Christianity, and importance of Jesus.
Argues that faith and reason can work together.
Design Argument: Complexity of the universe and human body as evidence of intelligent design.
Prophecy Argument: Old Testament prophecies about Jesus fulfilled in the New Testament. - PRESUPPOSITIONAL: An assumption made at the beginning of an argument or action. It starts with the belief that Christianity is true.
An intelligent guess. - FIDEISM: Based totally on faith and faith is gift from God. Reason has limits, but faith does not. Faith over reason.
