Art of structuring a sermon
Structure/Foundation
Find your structure or theme.
-what is you ur sermons going to be about
-what is your specific point
-what should the preacher must have about subject/theme

Structural Purpose
To know the subject/theme in a sermon is done for structural purpose. Knowledge
Subject
Subject identifies the topic of the sermon. Subject should be limited to one or two words.
1 word
Theme
Should be a phrase. Reveals more about the sermon than the subject.
Specific Point
(Punto Especifico)
Specific aspect/point of the subject that the sermon focuses on.
Pray and ask God, “what specific point do I want to get across to the people in my sermon?”
2 categories of sermons
- Timely sermon: specifically ordered by God. Given directly from God The Holy Spirit designates a specific message for a certain audience for a certain occasion.
- Timeless Sermon: subject/theme is decided by the minister. (Easter sermon)
Both are equally full of Gods word.
Title
Title should be what your sermon is going to be about.
- only a few words- should draw in the people
- ear catcher, be creative
- helps you structure s sermon
Example: The formula to bring down a giant.
4 purposes of an introduction to a sermon
- To establish rapport and secures the interests of your audience. Should help to immediately win them over, so they can pay attention to the message. Attention grabbers.
- A strong intro should establish the subject/theme topic of the message
- Intro must incorporate the sermons texto. Important to read the text. Text should be read because it is the word of God. Practice reading it to avoid errors. Should be read slowly, purposefully, and with appropriate emphasis. Good time to give a background on what is going to be talked about.
- Intro contains the bridge sentence.
Bridge Sentence
Last line of intro. Add or make mention of your theme. Bridge sentence opens the door to present the sermon.
Example: Today we will be discussing the 3 steps on how to worship God.
Thesis
Full sentence that includes the subject and the theme. It is produced by putting the subject, the theme, into a full sentence. Usually a brief and direct sentence.
Main Points
1 or 2 words, short phrase, or short sentence
Gives clarity to the sermon
Map for the audience
Always indicated with a Roman numeral
All refer back to the subject
Gives reflection onto the theme
Should be in uniform content
Should come from the passage that is being preached on
Don’t jump around
Sub points
Usually labeled by Alphas
Gives better picture of the main points
Expound on main points
Conclusion/ closing
End of message
Where you tell your audience how to apply to their lives what you just talked about
Always make an altar call
Give quick summary
Give a short illustration
Goal is to move in the heart of the audience to prepare their hearts to receive the Lord as Savior
Want audience to come to the altar
Conclude with a corrito that connects to the subject of the sermon
