Pathology of Integument Pt 4 Flashcards
What are intraepidermal vesicular/ pustular dermatitis? Why is it called this?
Called pustular because vesicles usually will contain pus.
What is acantholysis?
- Loss of cohesion between keratinocytes
resulting from a breakdown of the intercellular bridges (desmosomes).
What is seen in this image? What is indicated by the black arrows?
What are the features of transient intraepidermal vesicular/ pustular dermatitis? What would it progress to?
Transient: Vesicles/bullae, pustules
* Progress to erosions and crusts

What are causes of acantholysis?
What are the different diseases shown here?
What is pemphigus foliaceus? Who is it seen in? What is it attacking? What is the lesions seen? What kind of hypersensitivity reaction is seen with this condition? How can you diagnose pemphigus foliaceus?
Type 2 hypersensitivity
Only can be diagnosed with biopsy
What is seen in this image? What is indicated by the black arrows?
What is the cause of this cats lesions?
What is pemphigus vulgaris? What animals does it affect? where are lesions found? What is the antibodies attacking? What does this cause in the histopathology?
What is seen in this image? What is indicated by the black arrows?
In these images what is indicating the presence of desmosomal lesions?
green
What is bacterial infection caused by?
What is impetigo? Who is susceptible? What are predisposing factors? What is it usually caused by? What lesions can be seen? Where are the lesions found on the body?
What is seen in this image?
Impetigo (puppy pyoderma)
What is seen in this image? What is indicated by the black arrows?

What is Dermatophytosis? What can be seen ?
- ends up being diagnosis of exclusion. The one on the right is GMS (silver stain)
What are potential causes of pyoderma?
- Long term steroids
- Immunosuppression
- Wounds, ect
What is porcine exudative epidermitis (greasy pig disease)? What is the cause? Why does it occur? What lesions can be seen?
What is dermatophilosis? What is the cause? What animals can be affected? What are 2 critical factors that predispose animals? What is the lesions seen?
What is subepidermal vesicular dermatitis? What are the causes? what is the prognosis?
most with congenital do not make it longer than a few weeks.
