Pathology of Integument Pt 4 Flashcards
What are intraepidermal vesicular/ pustular dermatitis? Why is it called this?
Called pustular because vesicles usually will contain pus.
What is acantholysis?
- Loss of cohesion between keratinocytes
resulting from a breakdown of the intercellular bridges (desmosomes).
What is seen in this image? What is indicated by the black arrows?
What are the features of transient intraepidermal vesicular/ pustular dermatitis? What would it progress to?
Transient: Vesicles/bullae, pustules
* Progress to erosions and crusts

Type 2 hypersensitivity
Only can be diagnosed with biopsy

What is seen in these images?
Dermatophytosis
What diagnosis can be used for dermatophytosis? What is it similar to?
Essentially equivalent to ring worm. Not ring so prefer to not use that term
What is seen in this image? What is indicated by the black arrows in the first picture? 2nd picture?
1.) cross section of hyphae
2.) little black dots are arthrospores
