Fear that is excessive or unreasonable and interferes with normal fx. Cued by presence or anticipation of a specific object or situation. Person knows the fear is excessive.

Social Anxiety disorder and agoraphobia
Exaggerated fear of embarrassment in social situations
Social Anxiety disorder
Tx of social anxiety disorder
SSRIs
Exaggerated fear of open or enclosed spaces, using public transportation, being in line or crowds, or leaving home alone
Agoraphobia
Pattern of uncontrollable anxiety for at least 6months that is unrelated to a specific person, situation or event. Associated with sleep disturbance and difficulty concentrating
Generalized anxiety disorder
Tx of General Anxiety disorder
SSRI, SNRI, buspirone, cognitive behavioral therapy
Emotional symptoms (anxiety, depression) causing impairment following and identifiable psychosocial stressor lasting <6months
Generalized Anxiety Disorder
Recurring intrusive thoughts, feelings, or sensations that cause severe distress; relieved by performance of repetitive actions
Obsessive-compulsive disorder
Tx of OCD
SSRIs and clomipramine
preoccupation with minor or imagined defect in appearance, leading to significant emotional distress or impaired functioning
Body dysmorphic disorder, part of OCD
Persistent re-experiencing of a previous traumatic event. May involve nightmares, flashbacks, intense fears, helplessness, or horror. Lasts >1month
PTSD
PTSD lasting 3days-1month
Acute stress disorder
Patient constantly fakes, profoundly exaggerates or claims to have a disorder in order to attain a specific secondary gain. Complaints cease after gain
Malingering
Patient consciously creates physical and or psychological symptoms in order to assume the “sick role” and get medical attention (primary gain)
