- Idiopathic
- Familial
Aphthous ulcer description
single or multiple, shallow, hyperemic ulcerations
Pyogenic granuloma
- Female>Male; Pregnancy
- Inflammatory Gingival lesions; Red lobular ulcerating mass
- Tx: Surgical excision
What can develop f/ Pyogenic granuloma
Peripheral ossifying fibroma
Peripheral ossifying fibroma
- Long-standing PG or de novo f/ peridontal ligament
- Tx: Complete excision down to periosteum
Leukoplakia
Premalignant white patch which cannot be scraped off and not characterized as any other Dx
Red Velvety, eroded lesions of oral cavity
Erythroplakia -> Carcinoma in situ
SCC in India/Asia
- “Betel chewing teeth”
- Betel/Areca nut -> stimulatory, carcinogenic -> SCC
Oral SCC Et
- Actinic radiation/sunlight
- Smoking/pipe
- HPV-16
- Betel/Areca nut
Molecular mutation in SCC
- p53
- HPV-16 -> p16 cdk
Oral SCC Gross smorphology
Raised, firm, pearly plaques on verrucous areas of mucosal thickening
Oral SCC distal metastasis
- Mediastinal LNs
- Lungs
- Liver
- Bone
HSVI S/S
- Children 2-4
- abrupt onset of vesicles/ulcers, Lymphadenopathy, fever, anorexia
HSV1 Histo
- acantholytic epithelium “Tzank” Cells
Types of Oral candidias
- Pseudomembranous: Multiple white plawues; easily wiped off to reveal erythematous base
- Erythematous: MEdian rhomboid glossitis, loss of filiform papillae on midline of tongue
- Hyperplastic: White plaques which do not scrape off but responds to clotrimazole
White, confluent patches of fluffy, hyperkeratotic thickening on lateral tongue which cannot be scraped off
