PassMed Errors Flashcards
What is TLCO?
Total Gas Transfer - an overall measure of gas transfer for the lungs from the alveoli into the capillaries and reflects how much oxygen is taken up into the red cells.
What is KCO?
Transfer Co-Efficient - TLCO divided by the alveolar volume, which makes it a measure of how efficient gas exchange is in relation to the alveolar-capillary surface to volume ratio.
Which valvular defect causes haemoptysis?
Haemoptysis in mitral stenosis is thought to occur secondary to rupture of the bronchial veins caused by raised left atrial pressure.
What type of bacteria are Klebsiella pneumoniae?
Gram negative anaerobic rod.
What happens to TLCO in Recurrent PE?
