What are Interstitial Lung Diseases?
A
Conditions that cause inflammation and fibrosis of the lung parenchyma.

What is Fibrosis?
A
Replacement of the normal elastic and functional lung tissue with scar tissue that is stuff and dysfunctional.

What is the Interstitium?
A
The tissue lying between the alveoli - it contains pulmonary artery capillaries.

Why is there breathlessness in Interstitial Lung Disease?
A
- Expanded by Inflammatory Cell Infiltrate.

- Diagnosis - Clinical Presentation + High-Resolution CT Thorax (‘Ground-Glass’).
- Lung Biopsy.

- Supportive Management.
- Treat/Remove Underlying Cause.
- Physiotherapy and Pulmonary Rehabilitation.
- Lung Transplant.
