Passive Care - Interference Current Flashcards
1
Q
Interference Current: Action
A
Electrokinetic
Analgesic
Decrease Edema
2
Q
Interference Current: Results
A
Deep muscle contraction
Fatigue
Edema reduction
Pain Control
3
Q
Interference Current: Waveform
A
- Two circuit static (one specific treatment area)
- Two circuit scanning (sweeping) pre-mod freq treats wide area
- Three circuit (3 dimensional treatment area)
NOTE: Two sine waves of medium frequency decrease skin resistance and create an endogenous polyphasic beat wave
4
Q
Interference Current: Indications
A
Facial Neuritis (Bell's Palsy) Musculoskeletal (sciatica, ankle sprain, heel spur, fractures) Urogenital Dysfunction (stress and urge incontinence) Pain Control (trauma, sprain/strain) Vascular Condition (Raynauds - pad on stellate ganglia to clock sympathetic chain)
5
Q
Interference Current: Contraindications
A
To all electrical modalities
6
Q
Interference Current: Frequency
A
Medium Frequency: 1-10,000 (2,000 = RS) (4,000 IF)
Low Frequency = treatment
7
Q
Interference Current: Miscellaneous
A
- Sweeping / Sensory: pre-modulation current “sweeps” area, avoids accommodation (pps)
- Vectoring / Motor: increases the treatment area
- Scan: mA = area & size of muscle fibers effected
- Dosage: muscle strengthening 10 s on 50 s off
muscle spasm 10 s on 10s off
