parts of cells (bio) Flashcards
Consist of semi-permeable phospholipid bilayer and controls substances enter and leave the cell, and separates the interior of the cell from external environment.
Cell Membrane
A jelly like substance that fills the space of cell. Composed of water, salt, enzyme, and organic molecule. This protects the organelles of cell.
Cytoplasm
The control center of the cell and houses cell’s genetic information. Protects’ DNA while controlling other cellular activities.
Nucleus
Site of protein production in plant and animal cell. This produces protein by assembling amino acids.
Ribosome
Network of membranes inside a cell and its main functions are to process and transport new materials.
endoplasmic reticulum
Series of flatted, membrane-bound sacs that packages and distributes substances to the outer cell membrane.
golgi apparatus
Site of respiration and powerhouse of of cells, pumping out energy which is then stored in ATP.
Mitochondrion
Means “Small vessels”, helps store and transport products produced by cells.
secretory vesicle
Small, spherical organelle that are packed full of digestive enzyme. Breaks down and recycles unwanted materials.
Lysosome
antenna-like protrusions present on many type of eukaryotic cells.
Cilia and Flagella
Filled with chlorophyll, te green pigment that gives plants color and produces glucose.
Chloroplast
Tough structure that surrounds a plant cell. Found outside of a cell membrane and supports plant cells making it look rectangular shape.
Cell wall
Large organelle that can occupy 90% of plant cell. It serves as a storage, maintains pressure that helps plant cell keep its shape and prevent bursting.
Vacuole
