Abnormal osteoclastic activity which is followed by increased osteoblastic activity
abnormal bine structure with reduced strength and increased fracture risk
can be a single site - monostatic or multiple sites - polyostotic

how does it present?

A
bone pain 
deformity 
deafness 
compression neuropathies 
osteosarcoma - rare complication 
can be an incidental x-ray finding or isolated high alkaline phosphate

how is it diagnosed?

A

x-ray
isotope bone scan shows disease distribution
biochemistry shows raised alkaline phosphate with otherwise normal LFTs

how is it managed?

A

bisphosphate

pain can be treated with analgesia if unresponsive
