What is the formula for estimating paediatric weight based on age?
Under 5 yrs = 5 kg
1-10 yrs = (Age + 4)x2
11-14 yrs = Agex3
What is the estimated weight of a 9 year old?
(9+4)x2 = 26kg
What is the estimated weight of a 12 year old?
12x3 = 36kg
What is the estimated weight of a 6 year old?
(6+4)x2 = 20kg
A 3 year old child requires Paracetamol because of febrile discomfort, weight is unknown, what dose should be used?
200mg paracetamol liquid PO based on estimated weight of 14kg (round down to 10kg)
A 13 year old child requires Ondansetron for nausea and vomiting, what dose should be used?
8mg ondansetron based on estimated weight of 39kg rounded to 40kg
A large 12 year old child weighs 50kg, what dose of Ibuprofen should be given?
400mg (adult dose for any child over 45kg acc to CPG’s)
A five year old child weighing 27kg requires adrenaline, what dosage should be given?
0.3mg Adrenaline (go off weight not off age if you have a known weight)

5mg (0.5 tablet) based on 20kg weight
