A
Loratidine is a non sedating antihistamine
It blocks (antagonises) peripheral histamine receptors - blocking the action of histamine and reducing itching and redness

What are the indications for loratidine?

A
  • minor allergic reactions confined to the skin

* prominent itch associated with anaphlaxis provided all systemic signs of anaphylaxis have resolved

What are the contraindications and cautions for loratidine?

A
  1. Known severe allergy to loratidine
  2. Age less than one year
    Loratidine should only be given to pregnant women with caution (and should usually be withheld)
