Indications
To provide supplemental oxygen therapy to diminish respiratory distress and tissue organ hypoxia
Contraindications
Toxic inhallation of certain pesticides (IE paraquat, diquat)
Procedure 1
Standard precautions
Procedure 2
Visusally inspected oxygen regulator and cylinder/bottle: pins, o-ring, damage, hydro-date
Procedure 3
Quickly open the cylinder valve to clear dust and debris
Procedure 4
Properly attaches the regulator to the tank, open valve and checks for leaks
Procedure 5
Verify adequate tank pressure
Procedure 6
Attach Nasal Cannula, flow rate 1-6 l/min, approx 22-44% O2
Procedure 7
Attach NRB, flow rate 10-15 l/min, approx 90% O2
Procedure 8
Attach BVM, flow rate 15 -25l/min, approx 97-100% O2
Procedure 9
Assemble/ Demonstrate humidified O2 delivery system and discuss benefits
