Overview Of Phagocytosis In Bacferial Cell Flashcards
What happens when a neutrophil encounters a pathogen ?
Sends out cytoplasmic process to engulf pathogen
What is the cytoplasmic process called ?
Lamellipodia
When is cytoplasmic process efficient ?
When the pathogen is opsonised with a complement or antibody
Why is this?
Because the neutrophil has surface receptors that bind to the complement and receptors which bind fo antibody
What happens after injestiom?
Pathogen is enclosed with a phagosome inside a neutrophil
What are the 2 mechanisms for killing the inhested pathogen ?
Respiratory hurts and digestion
What does respiratory burst do?
Lead to the destruction of the pathogen by oxidative attack
What does digestion do?
Uses lysosomal enzymes to degrade the cell wall peptidoglyxan of bacteria
