Describe OC AA Create supportive environments
Recognises the impact broader determinants have on health and aims to promote healthy physical and sociocultural environments for all members of the community; a supportive environment is safe, stimulating and satisfying.
(building links between individuals and their environment)
Strengthen community action
Focusses on building links between individuals and the community; communities working together to achieve a common goal. Giving a community a sense of ownership of a health related strategy and working together can increase the likelihood of effectiveness
Develop personal skills
Educate people with health related knowledge and skills that allow people to make informed decisions that may affect their health and wellbeing
Reorient health services
Changing the health system so that it promotes health and wellbeing rather than just focusing on diagnosing and treating illness, as is the case with the biomedical model. Addressing all factors that influence health and wellbeing, not just diseases requires a shift towards health promotion including doctors taking on the role of educators.
