aetiology of osteoporosis
primary - idiopathic secondary - specific cause such as injury and genetics
risk factors of osteoarthritis
- age (45+) - female - obesity - occupation - genetics
pathophysiology of osteoarthritis
whole joint involvement, load dissipation not effective causing damage, spur growth and narrowing of joint space
co-morbidities
○ Over 60s 17/15% (W/M) increased risk of CVD ○ 20% of people experience symptoms of anxiety and depression
signs and symptoms
- activity related joint pain - morning stiffness lasting more than 30 minutes - muscle wasting - hand/finger nodes - increased pain during the day
howis osteoarthritis diagnosis
can be diagnosed without investigations - activity relayed joint pain AND - morning stiffness >30mins (OR none) AND - over 45 years
treatment options
lifestyle changes AND/OR NSAIDs, capsaicin, opioids, surgery
lifestyle advice
weight loss, core exercises, physical aids
