Osmosis Flashcards
1
Q
What is osmosis?
A
Osmosis is the net movement of a solvent from an area of high concentration to low concentration thorough a semi permeable membrane
2
Q
What is the point at which the potato does not lose or gain any mass in a graph
A
Isotonic point, where the y value is 0
3
Q
What happens when the potato is put in a diluted solution?
A
Permanent vacuole fills up and swells putting pressuron on cytoplasm which then puts pressure on cell wall making the cell turgid
4
Q
What happens when the potato is put in a concentrated solution?
A
Water in permanent vacuole leaves and goes in the solution, causing less pressure on cell wall and cytoplasm causing the cell to shrink and become plasmolysed
