Organisation In Plants Flashcards
What is the mid section of the leaf called?
Mesophyll
What is at the top and at the bottom of the leaf?
Upper and lower epidermis that produce waxy cuticle and are also transparent for sunlight to get in and waterproof
What is the difference between a palisade mesophyll and a spongy mesophyl?
Spongy=less chloroplasts + not bricked together because of more circular shape
Palisade=more chloroplasts and packed together at the top of the leaf
What is the vein split into, and what are the jobs of the things split?
Xylem=water and minerals, Transpiration
Phloem=sugars and translocation
What is translocation?
The movement of dissolved sugars around the plant
Why are spongy mesophyll surrounded by air pockets?
To aid diffusion of gases
