Active Transport Flashcards
What is active transport
The movement of a substance from a low concentration to a high concentrations (against the concentration gradient) using energy form respiration
How are root hair cells capable of collecting mineral ions by active transport
There is a lot of proteins around the cell membrane that are specialised in squeezing in mineral particles to then twist and release them in the actual cell itself, this requires energy
Active transport in small intenstine
Carbohydrates are broken down by enzymes in lumen to separate in glucose molecules, this particle goes though a villus into the blood stream by diffusion until equilibrium is reached and then because there are proteins in the membranes of the cells surrounding the villi that act as those turnstiles to push and drive all this glucose molecules in the blood stream
