What is metastasis?
Spread of cancer cells from the original (primary) site to other parts of the body.
What is differentiation in cancer?
The process by which cancer cells resemble normal cells. Well-differentiated cells are similar to normal cells; poorly differentiated cells are more abnormal
What is a cancer relapse?
Return of cancer after a period of remission.
What is cancer remission?
Period during which cancer signs and symptoms are reduced or disappear.
What does it mean for cancer to be sensitive vs resistant?
Cancer responds well to treatment (e.g., chemo or radiation).
Cancer does not respond well to treatment
What’s the difference between sarcomas and carcinomas?
Cancer that begins in bone, muscle, or connective tissue.
Cancer that begins in epithelial cells (e.g., skin, lungs, breast).
What is chemotherapy?
Use of drugs to kill or slow the growth of cancer cells
What is radiation therapy?
Use of high-energy radiation to kill cancer cells or shrink tumors.
What is surgery for cancer treatment?
Surgical removal of tumors or cancerous tissues
