What is the life cycle of a red blood cell?
Made in bone marrow.
Circulates for 120 days.
Destroyed in the spleen.
What influences red blood cell production?
Erythropoietin (from kidneys) and low oxygen levels
What influences overall blood cell production?
Erythropoietin (EPO) for RBCs.
Colony-stimulating factors (CSFs) for WBCs.
Nutrients (iron, B12, folic acid).
