what is the old definition of rape
“carnal knowledge of a female forcibly and against her will” (FBI)
what is the new definition of rape
“penetration, no matter how slight, of the vagina or anus with any body part or object, or oral penetration by a sex organ or another person with consent of the victim (PBI, 2013) (new definition)
what is sexual assault
sexual abuse or battery that does not involve penetration
e.g., flashing, voyeurism, frotteurism, groping, forced oral sex other acts wry varying degrees of physical invasion (new definition)

what is McGill’s Definition of sexual assault
sexual assault is any act of sexual nature performed without the consent of the other person(s). This may include physical violence, from unwanted kissing and touching… etc
what are the 4 degrees of sexual assault (MSU)
- penetration of any bodily orifice with any part of a person’s body or any object
- intentional touching of the victim’s genital area, groin, inner thigh, buttocks, or breasts (clothed or unclothed)
- The presence of a weapon, 2+ assailants, or incapacitation of the victim (unconscious, mental disables, drugged, etc) constituted aggravated assault
- marital or intimate-partner rape
“all non consenting sexual acts are assaults (Groth)”

“unwanted sexual attention that occurs at work or in school (or otherwise)”

offensive sexual joking or other remarks
