Definition of firearm
- discharge by force of explosion
- anything adapted to fire shot
- by completion
Examples of prohibited firearms
- semi automatic
- pump action shotgun
- semi automatic/PAS with non detachable tubular magazine or magazines capable of holding more than 5 cartridges
Examples of prohibited magazines
- capable of holding more than 5 cartridges (shot gun)
- capable of holding more than 10 cartridges (any other firearm ex. pistol)
- capable of holding 0.22 calibre or lower (any other firearm ex. pistol)
Definition of air gun
Use of gas or compressed air to fire any shot
Pistol
Designed or adapted to be held and fired with one hand. Less than 762mm long
Restricted weapon
Declared restricted by Governor General
e.g. grenades
molotov cocktails
When does a firearms licence need to be renewed?
- Every 10 years
- 5 years if revoked, surrendered or previously not held a firearms licence
How old to apply for licence
- 16 years old (airgun and firearm). Parental permission required
- 18 years old (firearm, doesn’t need for airgun)
What is Category A for a FAL
Full licence for possession and use except pistols and restricted weapons
What is Category B for FAL?
Pistols, must be member of pistol club
What is Category C for FAL?
Collectors, theatre performances, restricted weapons
What is Category D FAL?
Firearms dealers
If moving house, when must licence holders notify police by?
Within 30 days
If they do not have their licence on them and Police request to see it when must they produce it by?
Within 7 days of the demand at a police station
