Freeze, control, preserve
Freeze - the scene to remain as it was found
Control - people at scene, those attempting to leave and enter
Preserve - any evidence that may be destroyed or decay
Responsibilities of Scene Guard

Enroute to a scene
- Obtain description of suspect and vehicle, direction of vehicle, weapons
- Watch vehicles entering scene
- Designate SFP
- Discuss responsibilities
SFP
Safe Forward Point
Safe location near incident where forward operations can be supported
Ask of the informant
- Identify offender and victim. Direction of travel if gone
- Update Comms
- Ask informant location of scene
- Remain at scene
SITREP
Situation reports
a) Keep Comms informed
b) Advise of assistance needed
c) Keep victim particulars minimal on radio

Common Path Approach
Path in and out of scene avoiding any route possibly taken by suspect or victim
Importance of CAP
- Maintain scene integrity
- Don’t destroy exhibits
- Minimal scene contamination
VAWSEEPO
Victim - obtain information
Appreciation - consider all factors and choose best action plan
Witnesses - interview, seize evidence, statement
Scene - identify and FCP, scene examination
Exhibits - used to commit offence, reconstruct event, shows how it happened
Elements - what offence occurred. Establish all elements
Powers - arrest, detain, search, enter premises
Offender - arrest, report, warn
