What is OC?

A

A serious condition that affects the liver in pregnancy. Bile acids in the life do not flow properly and therefore build up in the body.

What is the treatment advised?

A
  • Vitamin K
  • Ursodeoxycilic acid
  • Regular blood tests to assess liver function
  • Plan for IOL if symptoms persist

Name some symptoms of OC?

A
  • uncontrollable, unexplained itching to palms of the hands and soles of the feet
  • raised LFTs
  • raised bile acids
  • darkened urine and pale bowel movements
  • jaundice (rare)

A

  • Referral when symptoms present
