Notes + Study Questions Of Digestive Systems Flashcards
What are the 6 basic processes of the digestive system?
ingestion, secretion, digestion, mixing and propulsion, absorption, and defacation [ISDM(p)AD)
What are the 4 layers of the GI tract?
Mucosa, submucosa, muscularis, adventitia/serosa
The 5 major peritoneal folds
Lesser omentum, greater omentum, mesocolon, falciform ligament, mesentery (GOLOFLMM)
What are the organs of the digestive system?
GI tract + accessory organs
Describe the 5 folds of the peritoneum and location.
Greater omentum: greater curvature of the stomach originates from the posterior wall
Lesser omentum: lesser curvature of the stomach originates from the posterior wall
Mesentery: parietal peritoneum of the intestines originates from the posterior wall
mesocolon: mesentery of the colon and for the large intestines originates from the posterior wall
falciform ligament: runs through the liver connecting the anterior abdominal wall to the liver originates from the anterior wall
What are the 3 phases of the digestive system
Cephalic, gastric, intestinal
What are the 3 main digestive components of the mouth
Salivary glands, teeth, tongue
Identify the location of the salivary glands
Large: parotid, submandibular, sublingual
small: lip, cheek, palate, tongue
Which pharynx is only used for respiration and which pharynx is used for both respiration and digestion?
Nasopharynx: only respiration
Oropharynx + laryngopharynx: respiration and digestion
The type of muscle in the muscularis of the esophagus varies by region
top third: skeletal muscle
Middle: skeletal and smooth muscle
Inferior one third: smooth muscle
What are the 3 phases of deglutition
voluntary, pharyngeal, esophageal
what is the 3 layers of smooth muscle of the muscularis of the stomach
longitudinal, circular, inner oblique
What is the pathway of bile
left and right hepatic duct of liver > common hepatic duct > common bile duct > cystic duct >gallbladder > cystic duct > common bile duct > duodenum
What are the 4 parts of the large intestine
cecum, colon, rectum, anal canal
