Notes 5 Flashcards
What is the altitude considered mid altitude flying?
12000 to 18000
what altitude is the most possible of icing in cold and warm weather?
15000 to 20000
What does following mean?
FL170/TB B777/TB MDT CHOP in CLDS
You
What does low pitch do in non-fix propeller plane?
High RPM during takeoff and climb
What does high pitch do in non-fix propeller plane?
LOW RPM , cruise flight and descents
What does the manifold pressure gauge do?
Measures the pressure of the fuel and air mixture right before entering the cylinder
what is the relationship between manifold and throttle?
If throttle is open, manifold gauge will indicate high and when idle, manifold pressure will indicate less.
What is the air-fuel mixture?
between 8 and 18 pounds of air per 1 pound of fuel will burn. 15 to 1 is the perfect.
If engine is heated too much? what is the next step?
lean mixture
pitch attitude
cowl flaps
O2 requirement
- 500 if more tan 30mins, crew
14000: all crew at all times
15000: everyone
for hire, O2 rule.
used by each pilot after 30mins 10.000 to 12000
used continuously after 12000
What is a pressurization system?
maintains cabin altitude lower than actual flying altitude
what doesn’t pressurization provide?
creates lower pressure inside
Class A altitude
18000-FL600
CLASS IFR or VFR
Always IFR. Even VFR on top is not allowed
Class A, flight sapreation is
pilot’s responsibility
What is EFAS?
En route flight advisory service. High altitude frequencies
Where can you find the EFAS
refer the A/FD
High altitude charts. thick arrow
jet routes
What are MEA and MAA
Minimum En route Altitude
Maximum Authorized Altitude
when is the microburst wind shear is probable?
1) Convective
2) heavy precipitation
3) virga
4) moderate or greater turbulence
5) 15-30 temperature/dew point spread
6) pilot reports for 15 or more know IAS change
LLWAS
Low level wind shear alert alert systems
windshaer take-off precaoutins
1) use the longest runway
2) use the max. rated take-off
3) higher airspeed lift off
wind shear landing precautions
1) Fly a stabilized approach within 1000 ft
2) avoid large power reductions
3) Use longest runway
4) Consider higher approach speech
What is the function of the Great Falls RCO (Yellowstone vicinity)?
Remote communications outlet for Great Falls FSS.
Where might ice first occur on the airplane’s surface?
TailpIane
What does the Runway Visual Range (RVR) value, depicted on certain straight in IAP Charts, represent?
The horizontal distance a pilot should see when looking down the runway from a moving aircraft.
ATC may assign the MOCA when certain special conditions exist, and when within
22 NM of a VOR.
A stabilized approach is required ______feet above the TDZE. See the upper left corner of the IAP it gives the TDZE as 1094 MSL. Therefore, you must be established on the approach by________ MSL.
1,000
When ground speed increases, rate of descent must ____________________
increase.
