How did the Renaissance spread North?
The Italian kingdoms were fighting and people wanted to flee but they brought the renaissance with them.
Whats the Hanseatic league?
A group of merchants that wanted to help each other. They built a trading community.
Whats the Gutenberg press?
Made by Johannes Gutenberg in the mid 1400s. First thing printed by it was the bible.
Who was Desiderius Erasmus?
A philosopher who created Christian Humanism. He was eventually silenced by the church.
Sir Thomas Moore
He got his ideas from Erasmus. Wrote the book Utopia, it’s about a perfect world that doesn’t exist.
Shakespear
Wrote plays and was popular because he wrote on topics and language that was appealing to all audiences.
Christiane de Pisan
An Italian feminist and wrote city of women. It talks about how women deserve rights.
Northern Renaissance Art
It was more realistic and adapted Italian techniques.
Protestant Reformation
They were people who didn’t like how the church had changed for the worst, so they protested and tried to change it. The church would make people pay and had way too much power.
Martin Luther
He was against the church and made a list of 95 things wrong with it. He also translated the bible so it was easier for people to read and this gave the church less power. People followed him and created Lutheranism.
Protestantism
After people loving Luther a swiss priest tried to preach but they didn’t like him and killed him
John Calvin
He preached Predestination (It says that everybody’s destiny is already predetermined and no matter how one acted you were already slated to go to Heaven or Hell.) He also founded calvinism.
