Renaissance
French word for rebirth. The rebirth of European western civilization. The death of the dark ages.
Rome’s fall
Rome’s fall caused the dark ages because it was in charge of most of Europe. It was too big and they were low on money. Then other people slowly started to invade Rome.
Aftermath of Rome’s fall
Local leaders took control and created small independent kingdoms. They were all self-sufficient.
The cause of the dark ages
The lack of innovation, everyone wanted to gatekeep knowledge while the roman empire wanted to share it.
Surplus
With all the people dying from the black plague left extra land from the people who died. This caused there to be extra resources that had to be stored.
Specialization
Every person has one thing that they are really good at. Like Germany and beer.
Trade Routes
Italy was the trade empire at the time because it faced the mediterranean and is a peninsula. Also the silk road ended in Italy.
Humanism
The study of humans, anatomy and philosophy
Greek Moving
They were being picked on by the Ottomans and also wanted to go to Italy for trade routes. They brought a lot of knowledge with them and taught the Italians more languages.
Secularism
Being detached from religion, led to the creation of the renaissance man.
Renaissance Man
The norm for men at the time (it was also a book). Had to know multiple languages, know economics, poetry, politics and how to be a gentleman.
Il Principe (the prince)
A book written by Niccolo Machiavelli. It talked about how to be a good leader and doing whatever it took to do that (beheading and execution).

Classical and religious
Science in the renaissance
Before they used their brains they believed that anything that the church said was true. Then Copernicus and Galileo started to question the stars and started to believe in astrophysics. And the church would make anyone who questioned them do house arrest.

He was the true renaissance man.
He was bilingual, a painter, writer, inventor, architect, engineer, mathematician, musician, and a philosopher.
Painted the Mona Lisa and the last supper.
