What is the presentation of Normal Saline?
A
10mL amp
500mL and 1000mL infusion soft packs.

What is the pharmacology and action of Normal Saline?
A
An isotonic crystalloid solution.
Action:
Increases the volume of the intravascular compartment.

What is the composition of Normal Saline?
A
Sodium and chloride in similar concentration to normal ECF.

List the PEI’s for Normal Saline.
A
- As a replacement fluid in volume-depleted pts
- Cardiac arrest secondary to hypovolaemia where the pt may be fluid responsive
- To expand intravascular volume in the non-cardiac, non-hypovolaemic hypotensive pt (eg. anaphylaxis, burns, sepsis)
- As a fluid challenge in unresponsive, non-hypovolaemic, hypotensive patients excluding LVF (eg. Asthma)
- Fluid for diluting and administering IV drugs
- Fluid TKVO for IV admin of emergency drugs
