What is the pharmacology of Glucagon? List the action.
A hormone normally secreted in the pancreas.
Actions:
Causes an increase in blood glucose concentration by converting stored liver glycogen to glucose.
How is Glucagon metabolised?
By the liver, kidneys and plasma.

- Diabetic hypoglycaemia in pts with an altered conscious state who are unable to self-administer oral glucose.

What is the special note for Glucagon?
Not all pts will respond to Glucagon, particularly those with inadequate glycogen stores in the liver such as malnourished or alcoholic pts.
