Born between 37 and 40+6 weeks
Born between 24 weeks and 36+6

Alveolar expansion

When is newborn examination carried out?
Immediately following birth by midwife, and at 24 hours
Bulging/tense fontanelles
Increased ICP
Subperiosteal, fluctuant swelling which may take weeks to be reabsorbed
Cephalohaematoma
Caput succedaneum
Swelling over the presenting part
