Why is it important to call them “channels”?
Because they qualify one another and consider the words that are communicated

Distinguishes between messages that are given and messages that are given off
- Messages that are given = intentional
- Messages that are given off = unintentional.

Examples :
- Women can express fear but men can’t
- Women can cry but men can’t
