IR CHAPTERS 10-12 Flashcards
What are Comprehensive Factors?
The strongest Central Factors that are correlated with other Central Factors
- They capture what they have in common, or the additional effects beyond what they have in common.
What are the four categories of Comprehensive Factors in predicting relationship satisfaction and commitment?
(M. C. R . O)
Motivation - reflected in having had and desiring to replace a previous partner
Confidence - reflected in rating self desirable as a partner
Readiness - reflected in age
Opportunity - reflected in less difficulty finding a partner
What is surprising about the results of the study?
The same Comprehensive factors matter in the same ways (making similar predictions), across eight relationship types and nine cultural regions.
Why do the same factors make similar predictions?
The physiological mechanisms of emotions are similar across typically developing individuals
- All humans are members of the same species, and have similar needs, even though cultures may vary in their ways of meeting those needs.
What were some limitations of the study?
(O. YP. FP)
- Online format makes it limited to those who have access to the Internet
- Participants are likely to be younger, since older persons may be less familiar with computers.
- Few of participants from Africa, Oceana and the Middle East
In what way were the findings similar to the Boston Couples Study?
(PS. EC & EP)
Factors related to partner suitability, emotional closeness, and exchange processes also predicted relationship outcomes in the Boston Couples Study.
What are the implications of the study for self-reflection?
When thinking about a current or potential intimate relationship, you should consider the Four Categories of the Comprehensive Commitment Model because partner suitability matters
