The medication was prescribed by a physician, was prescribed for the patient, all indications are met, and there are no contraindications.

What are the indications for using nitroglycerin?

Answer 3

Chest pain suspected to be myocardial in origin and systolic blood pressure is greater than 90mmHg

What are the contraindications for using nitroglycerin?

The patient does not meet the indications/criteria for administration, the patient has taken 3 doses before EMS arrival, the last dose was taken less than 5 minutes prior, systolic blood pressure is less than 100mmHg, and they patient has used sexual enhancing/erectile dysfunction drugs within 48 hours

How do you administer the medication?

Answer 5

Place the tablet under the patient’s tongue and advise them to not swallow for 10 seconds after the tablet completely dissolves
OR
Deliver one spray on top or under the tongue and do not let them inhale the spray
