What is the inhaler used for?
For patients with respiratory distress from asthma
What is the criteria for administering the medication?
The medication is prescribed by a physician, is prescribed for the patient, the patient meets the indication for administration, and no contraindications are present for administration
What are the indications for using the inhaler?
If the patient has shortness of breath, wheezing, coughing, and difficulty speaking
What are the contraindications of using the inhaler?
The patient has taken the maximum prescribed dose before EMS arrival or the patient is unable to follow directions or use the inhaler
How do you administer the inhaler?
Remove mouthpiece cover, shake vigorously 5-6 times, place inhaler in the patient’s mouth and have them breathe in while you press the inhaler for 5-7 seconds. If a spacer is used, have patient breathe in and out 3-4 times with their mouth on the spacer.
