NEW FFP AERIALS Jan 2014 Flashcards
Who assists Lcc before carrying out assigned duties?
OV
Placement of aerial depends on?
- whether immediate rescue is apparent
- no immediate rescue; size of frontage future use
- smoke, heat or fire causing an exposure that would endanger a victim, a member or ladder
- area or street conditions that might hamper optimum positioning
While operating at a fire or emergency the apparatus should not be backed up unless?
Lcc has assistance of at least one guide person
City sidewalk?
13’ from bld line to curb. 35’ curb to curb
Place apparatus how far from bld?
25’ to 35’
Two methods used to attain accuracy in lining up ladder with window?
Experienced - ladder rail of top section.
Less experienced - underside of the beam
Recommended distance from objective ?
2” to 6”. 2” rescue
At a very extreme angle ex: placing ladder to roof of 7 sty bld?
Barely touch
When positioning ladder to a window?
Less then 6” over the window sill
Place ladder alongside f/e?
2” away from face of bld, 1’ to 3’ of railing
Narrow frontage bld (30’ or less) no people showing?
Place turntable in ctr of bld; **ready truck for raising.
Ladder ops can be performed efficiently with portables ?
3 stories or less in hgt
Large frontage >30’. No people showing?
Place ctr of turntable approx 15’ from side wall approached ***do not set up the truck unless fire is at the NEAR end & far end seems relatively safe
Roof access for serious fire in isolated bld - place ladder?
Safe angle to the least exposed sidewall. “Cantilever position with tip fairly close…Not touch or Barely touch the wall”
Chocks & stabilizers: When staffing is available, have OV take care of inboard or outboard side?
OV - outboard
Victim removal from aerial is complete?
When victim assisted all the way to ground
Removal of victims (2). Remove who first ?
Fire in front - fat/ non ambulatory first
NEW: When there are MORE then two people to be rescued the officer should?
Contact 2nd ladder
If 2nd ladder comes into block opposite 1st engine -2nd ladder must verify what before coming too close?
1st engine has a hydrant
When 1st eng is opp 1st ladder - ?
1st ladder stops just short of hydrant.
Vacants: 3 examples when aerial gets precedence to front of bld?
- bld not completely vacant
- officer receives info or prior knowledge that part of bld is used by vagrants or squatters
- reach of 100’ is reqd.
NEW: If street has severe crown, check BOTH inclinometers - BOTH bubbles MUST be in Green. If in Red zone ?
In red zone Level apparatus or if necessary reposition.
When placing AERIAL to roof, extend so that tip is at least __’ above from where ladder come into contact with bld?
Aerial: 5’
Portable: 2’
What tool need not be carried on ladder?
6’ hook
6’ hook:
Hook is extended arms length over head. It is not touched again until top of hook is about knee level.
Inboard side of aerial not more than __’ from bld line?
35’
What is first step of ladder collapse ?
Twisting
If ladder becomes coated with ICE, try to avoid movement before defrosting, first?
RRTB: first free rungs, rung locks, then trussing & then main beams
When can you move ladder with stabilizers in contact with street?
Never
Never move truck with ladder raised to one side?
T
