Q

What and Where are dendrites on neurons?

A

Dendrites are branch-like structures that receive messages from other neurons. They are at the end where they look like branches and more “sharp”.

Q

What and where is the soma?

A

The soma is the cell body of the neuron containing the nucleus and is responsible for maintaining the life of the cell. Its location is basically the body.

Q

What is myelin?

A

Myelin: the fatty substances that coat the axons of neurons to insulate, protect and speed up the neural message.

Q

How do messages get sent to other cells?

A

These things called neurotransmitters are in synaptic vesicles at the end of the axon terminals which get released into the synaptic gap (in between the axon terminal and dendrites of the next cell) which gives an effect on the next cell.

Q

What are all the different types of neurotransmitters?

A
  1. Acetylcholine:

Excitatory or inhibitory
involved in arousal, attention, memory, and controls muscle contractions.

  1. Norepinephrine:

Mainly excitatory
Involved in arousal and mood

  1. Dopamine:

Excitatory or inhibitory
involved in the control of movement and sensations of pleasure

  1. Serotonin:

excitatory or inhibitory.
Involved in sleep, mood, anxiety, and appetite.

  1. Endorphins:

inhibitory neural regulators.
involved in pain relief.
