What does attachment mean?
Attachment refers to an emotional tie to another person.
In children, attachment can appear as a desire for physical closeness to a caregiver.
What is the difference between secure and insecure attachment?
Children who are insecurely attached have learned that adults are not reliable, and do not trust easily. Children who are securely attached tend to: have less extreme reactions to stress. be more willing to try new things and to explore independently.
What is Avoidant attachment?
When the child is seeming indifferent to the mother’s departure and return.
What is Ambivalent attachment?
It is a form of insecure attachment characterized by inconsistent responses of the caregiver
What is disorganized-disoriented attachment?
A relationship where the child loves and cares for the parent, but also fears them
What can deprivation of attachment lead to?
If the child experiences severe, prolonged deprivation or abuse, he or she may:
have difficulty forming attachments.
have increased anxiety and depression
have lowered intelligence
show increased aggression
