Q
What are all Kohlberg’s levels of moral reasoning?
A
Preconventional morality (up to age 9):
(punishment and obedience/pleasure-seeking orientation)
“Follow the rules because if you don’t you’ll get in trouble; if you do, you might get a treat.”
Conventional morality (early adolescence):
(Approval-seeking/Law and Order or authority orientation)
“Follow the rules because we get along better if everyone does the right thing.”
Post-conventional morality (later adolescence and adulthood):
(Social contract/ Universal moral principles orientation)
“Sometimes rules need to be set aside to pursue higher principles.”
