Neural Integration Flashcards
What affect does Axo-dendritic have?!
Often excitatory
Synapses occur on the dendritic spines or shafts
What are the main types of synaptic connections in the CNS?!
Axo-axonic
Axo-dendritic
Axo-somatic
What are dendritic spines?!
Section of the dendrite that can change shape, can grow more etc
What are dendritic shafts?!
The main section of the dendrite
What affect can Axo-axonic synapses have?!
Can decrease or increase the amount of neurotransmitter released
Modulatory and control
Controls calcium ion influx
What affect do Axo-somatic synapses have?!
Normally inhibitory
Increases control
What is facilitation?!
C is an excitatory neurone and therefore depolarises A for longer allowing increased NT firing between A and B
What is inhibition?!
C is an inhibitory neurone that causes a reduction in NT firing between A and B
What is the direction the action potential propagates?!
From the axon hillock
What is convergence integration?!
Many neurones communicate with a given neurone
What is divergence integration?!
Neurones communicate with many other neurones by having an axon with many branches
What do somato-somatic synapses involve?!
NT release from the cell body
