The second job/layer of the Data Link layer; it creates and addresses frames, adds/checks the FCS, and sends frames along the network cabling

Primary logical addressing protocol makes sure a piece of data gets where it needs to on a network; it gives each device a unique numeric identifier
Internet Protocol (IP)
Code built into an OS that enables network-aware applications, allowing programmers to enhance or extend an application’s capabilities
